Looking for Communications and Campaigns Project Assistant

Salary Range: $40,000-45,000 annually

Position Type: 1-year Contract (with possible extension), 30-35 hours/week (hours are negotiable)

The Child Care Advocacy Association of Canada is a membership-based national non-profit organization dedicated to achieving publicly-funded and non-profit early childhood education and child care systems in Canada that would make high quality and inclusive early childhood education, including child care, available and affordable for all parents who want it.

Overview of the position

We have an immediate opening for a talented, innovative and bold communicator and strategist to assist the Executive Director with a variety of projects leading to systemic change in how early childhood education and child care is funded and delivered in Canada.

Job Duties

Organizational development and fund-raising

  • Assist with the development and executive of a strategy to expand the reach of CCAAC, and the number of CCAAC supporters, over the next twelve months
  • Assist in creating and maintaining supporter tracking and membership renewal systems
  • Assist in outreach to, and communication with, major donors and potential major donors
  • Assist with seeking out potential sources for grants and with preparation of grant applications

Communications  

  • Assist in the development of overall communications strategy for building broad support for systemic change with respect to early childhood education and child care
  • Design and write content for various digital and print materials including flyers, e-newsletters, slide presentations, info-graphics, reports
  • Manage content for three inter-related web sites
  • Enhance social media engagement by applying exceptional knowledge of platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and others)
  • Build and maintain contact data base and social media contacts
  • Some administrative tasks will also be assigned

Required qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in communications, marketing, political and/or public policy management
  • Several years of relevant work or volunteer experience related to political and issue advocacy
  • Superior verbal, written communication skills in English; conversational French a strong asset
  • Skills in layout, design and graphic creation (digital and print) is an asset
  • Experience and skills in writing for all forms of digital media
  • Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently, and willing to be guided by, and learn from, experienced Executive Director
  • Capacity to stretch limited organizational resources
  • Knowledge of WordPress and Nation Builder
  • Highly computer literate

Work environment

  • Must be willing to do telework until an office is established
  • You will be the only employee, working with a part-time Executive Director
  • Flexible hours but must report regularly to Executive Director and account for how time is spent
  • Occasional weekend and evening hours
  • You will be equipped with a computer, if necessary, and will receive compensation for phone/Internet use as well as required office supplies and software programs (all of which must be returned to CCAAC at the end of contract)
