As the federal election nears, dozens of organizations are mobilizing their members to join Child Care Now’s efforts to get candidates to support the Affordable Child Care for All Plan.
Thousands of voters have signed petitions signatures have been coming in from all over the country. Several organizations have chosen to present the Plan and petition to colleagues in an effort to raise awareness of the proposed solution to the child care crisis.
Gwen Campbell, who works with Unifor, one of Canada’s largest trade unions, sent in pages of signed petitions. She said she has been getting members to join the campaign for affordable quality child care by raising the issue at membership meetings and training sessions. She sets up information tables and speaks to gatherings wherever she can.
“You need to reach out because they don’t always come over on their own, but they do come if you ask,” Campbell said.
She added that she had another package of petitions ready to send to Child Care Now’s office.
