In April 2021 the federal government budgeted over 30 billion dollars in funding for provinces and territories to build a system of child care. The foundation of each agreement is to reduce parent fees in half by 2022, and create regulated, high quality child care for $10/day across the country.
The federal plan prioritizes “Working with provinces and territories to support primarily not-for-profit sector child care providers to grow quality spaces across the country while ensuring that families in all licensed spaces benefit from more affordable child care.”
Eight jurisdictions have signed agreements with the federal government to secure billions in funding. Alberta was not one of them.
We need Alberta to sign an agreement and make good use of the one billion dollars in funding allocated to the province. As you child care is a womens’ issue, a children’s issue, an issue of gender equity, and of economic recovery.
We reached out to municipal candidates asking them to take the child care pledge by posting this graphic on thier social media. These are the candidates that joined the campaign.
The Table now reflects those candidates who took that pledge and were elected in their ward.
